Our Purpose, Values and Background

UK Prison Service Network (UKPSN) was established in 2011 to support professionals working across the UK justice and custodial system, including prisons, probation, secure psychiatric hospitals, youth justice services, immigration detention and custodial transport. Founded and run by former prison officers, the network is grounded in real frontline experience and a clear understanding of the pressures, risks and responsibilities involved in public protection roles.

Over more than a decade, UKPSN has grown into a trusted online community for custodial and justice professionals, reaching over 63,000 followers and up to 100,000 people daily through social media and digital platforms. UKPSN is proud to support frontline staff and, through its networks, also helps inform the wider public about the vital work carried out within custodial settings, highlighting the often unseen efforts of dedicated professionals who work day and night to protect the public.

UKPSN promotes safety, wellbeing and professionalism within custodial environments by sharing relevant information, raising awareness and connecting staff with trusted and vetted partners, including legal services, counselling and wellbeing providers, trade unions and security-related organisations. Our work is guided by clear values — integrity, trust, respect and responsibility — and all partnerships are reviewed to ensure they align with the needs and professional standards of the UKPSN community.

While the network has operated since 2011, UK Prison Service Network Ltd has recently been formally registered as a UK limited company to support continued growth, governance and professional partnerships. UKPSN operates independently and is not affiliated with HM Prison and Probation Service, the Ministry of Justice, NHS secure services, or any government body.
